ADMISSION AND RIGISTRATION
 

 

Ensure that its admission policy coincides with the By-laws of requirements. As a result, Ibb University issues its prospectus annually in order to provide students with up-to-date information about admission requirements.

General Requirements for Admission

Article number 3 of the Students Affairs By-laws stipulates : Taking into consideration the special requirements for each faculty: The general requirements for admission are as follows:

1- Student should have obtained an adequate qualification (in accordance with the university's bylaw of admission).

2- The date of issue of the prerequisite qualification should not exceed four years for Yemeni students and two year for non - Yemeni students from the date of obtaining it.

3- Yemeni students are required to indicate their status regarding military service in accordance within the law .

4- Application should be submitted within the stipulated time in accordance with the regulation of admission to the university.

5- Student should pay admission fees, which is non - refundable except library deposits.

Yemeni students may not join the university directly after their graduation from secondary school. Students who scored first ranks are exempted from this condition but they should fulfill the following conditions:

1- Indicate their status regarding military service. 2- Submit their applications within the stipulated time of admission. 3- All students are required to submit necessary documents and certificates within the stipulated time of admission.

Study and Examination System

System of Study

According to the Article 4 of the Students Affairs By-laws " the academic year begins in the first week of October: and it extends up to 32 teaching weeks. The mid - term vacation is for two weeks as decided by the University Council". The syllabi is distributed over two terms as stated in Article 5 of the Students Affairs By-laws: " The academic year is divided into two compulsory terms: each term consists of 12 teaching weeks including the examination period. It is permitted to add one more term for the laboratory studies provided that the added term should not exceed 8 teaching weeks including the examination period".

Regularity of Study

Attendance is compulsory for all students in all faculties as stated in Article 41 of the Students Affairs By-laws: "Students are required to fulfill the attendance requirements of the university. They are obliged to attend all the lectures regularly and complete their term papers, assignment or essays successfully".

System of Evaluation

The System of evaluating students' achievement is subject to a unified criteria in all the faculties of the University. In this regard , the Article 80 of the University By-laws states. " Each faculty specifies the number of teaching hours for each subject and on the basis of this the final marks are decided. For instance, if the subject is given 3 hours per lecture then the final marks will be 150 which means 50 marks for each hour". Articles 81 and 94 of the above mentioned By-laws specifies the manner of evaluation that a faculty might use and the relationship a students' marks in the monthly tests and the final examination. Similarly, the relationship between a students' practical and theoretical marks (for the subjects that have practicals and laboratories). Moreover, regarding the condition of students' promotion to higher levels, between article 92 states the way of calculating the students' cumulative grade as follows :

Article 93 of the University By-law states the manner of calculating the final grades of graduating students as follows " The final grade is calculated on the basis of the marks that a students has scored in all the subjects from the second level up to the fourth level. The overall percentage of marks is calculated against the final marks of all the subjects to get the cumulative grade as indicated in Article 92. Students who obtain less than 50% ( Weak ) as cumulative grade are not permitted to graduate.
