Stemming from the aims of the University to enrich scientific research, encourage innovation and invention of Yemeni students to participate effectively in serving the community, the University of Ibb has established several academic centres such as Agricultural Consultancy & Environmental Centre, Education Technology Centre, and Engineering Consultancy Centre. These centres contribute to conducting scientific research, and suggest solutions to problems that are encounter the production process. Moreover, they contribute in training the community members to use highly technical and scientific methods to improve their productive skills. Also, these centres connect the University with its surrounding community.

I. CENTRE for AGRICULTURAL & ENVIRONMENTAL CONSULTANCY

This Centre was established in 1997-1998. It aims at activating agricultural development and achieving food sufficiency. To achieve these aims, the centre adopts scientific methods and provides consultancy services for agricultural projects. Also, it helps in saving time and money which are wasted in projects run by individuals who lack scientific grounds. Moreover, due to the lack of scientific grounds in using poisons, fertilizers and insecticides, for instance, some agricultural activities may lead to dangerous consequences on environment, human beings, animals, and agricultural land. Therefore, the centre plays a vital role in organizing self-financed or organization-financed projects and studying their feasibility. This centre, however, aims at achieving the following goals:

1- To contribute in achieving food sufficiency by setting up projects to increase animal and agricultural production.

2- To contribute in serving the community, and protecting the environment by running training courses and publishing brochures in this field.

3- To conduct research and scientific studies for organizations and individuals in the field of agricultural projects, food industry, and land reclamation.

4- To activate the role of the agricultural guidance, particularly in Ibb Governorate as well as in all over the country.

5- To contribute in improving the scientific research capabilities as well as the administrative ones.

6- To provide the Faculty of Agriculture with needed financial resources.

 

II. CENTRE for ENGINEERING CONSULTANCY

It was established in 1998-1999.

It aims at achieving the following goals.

1- To provide all sorts of technical consultancies by utilizing the experiences of the teaching staff of the Faculty of Engineering & Architecture and the Faculty of Science.

2- To run training courses in the field of engineering and computer.

3- To prepare studies and designs for engineering projects and to supervise the implementation of these projects.

4- To prepare educational programmes in the field of information technology.

III. CENTRE for EDUCATION TECHNOLOGY

Due to its recent establishment, the University suffers from the scarcity of financial and human resources. However, the University has located this centre to run several tasks to provide services to all faculties of the University, to qualify manpower that the University as well as the community needs badly, to contribute in raising the efficiency of the general and specific education in the governorate of Ibb as well as in the rest governorates of the Republic.

Aims of the centre

1- To design curriculum for all faculties departments

2- To produce educational materials with the cooperation of the teaching staff

3- To manage the educational technology services and visual aids at the University

4- To train the teaching staff for selecting and using visual aids in accordance with the recent approaches to tertiary education

5- To facilitate the educational services and to provide the needs for the educational process.

6- To provide maintenance and supply services of visual aids inside and outside the University. To cooperate with other centres at the University.

7- To connect the centre with the community by:

-Providing educational and training consultancies for all educational, health, and environmental institutions.

-Providing educational programmes for those who need especial care, such as handicapped children, gifted children, women, etc.

- Designing training programmes to qualify teachers, schools headmasters, and supervisors of the centres of health & environment, and mother & child care.

8- To produce computerized educational programmes which contribute in raising the technological awareness at the University, schools, and institutions.

9- To prepare syllabus for technology of education, visual aids for the Faculty of Education and other faculties.

10- To produce materials needed for the University media.

11- To organize educational workshops for the teaching staff of the University in the field of the technology of educational, train them with up-to-date technology, and design educational situations.
